The Story of How I Gave New Life to an Old Chest of Drawers

The Story of How I Gave New Life to an Old Chest of Drawers

I want to share a little story about a project that was really fun and freeing for me. It all started with a beautiful Mago wood tall chest of drawers. The structure was strong and solid, but honestly, the design felt a bit plain. So, I decided to forget the rules for a while and just see where my creativity would take me.

Why These Colors? Because They Spoke to Me

I picked Peacock Blue, Midnight Blue, Farmhouse Green, and a little splash of Red  colors that I love and that felt right for this piece. When I started mixing and layering them, something magical happened. The paints blended beautifully, and I especially love how the red subtly peeked through the layers, giving the piece a unique, almost glowing effect.

Adding My Own Touch: Transfers and Distressing

But I didn’t want to stop there. I added some Harlequin furniture transfers to give it a bit of character and a vintage feel. Then, I lightly distressed the edges so the layers underneath could show through just enough to add texture and tell a story.

The Drawers Got Some Love Too

I chose special ceramic and metal handles for the drawers, because little details like these really make a difference. They gave the chest some personality and made it feel truly one-of-a-kind.

Sealing It All In

Finally, I sealed everything with clear wax to protect the paint and finish. It gave the whole piece a soft glow and helped keep all those beautiful layers looking fresh.

This project reminded me how freeing it is to let go of perfection and just have fun with colors and textures. If you want to see more creative projects and behind-the-scenes moments, follow me on social media. I share lots of inspiration and tips there!
